The practice has two nurses who offer a wide range of general nursing services. These include dressings, cervical smears, ear syringing, injections, stitch removal etc. They also offer a variety of specialised clinics for Asthma/COPD, Diabetes, Hypertension, Coronary Heart Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease and are able to provide patients with health promotion information and advice.

We have a large number of staff in the admin team – their duties range from reception work, secretarial, coding and summarising. All administrative staff are here to help and are bound by confidentiality.
All admin staff provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the correct person depending on your health issue or query. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with patient records, registrations, filing, summarising and secretarial work.

Our community phlebotomist role involves visiting patients who are housebound to take their bloods.
District Nursing Services
The District Nurse team who provides a service to the surgery is based at Slateford Medical Centre, Gorgie Park Close. They provide a comprehensive service to patients who are unable to attend the surgery due to physical health problems. If you need to contact the District Nurse team please call 0131 455 9849 between 08:00 and 16:30 Monday to Friday. An answering machine is available when the District Nurses are out of the office so please leave a message as this is checked regularly throughout the day. If you require a District Nurse after 16:30, at weekends or on a public holiday please call out of hours on 111.

The Health Visiting team offer advice to parents of children from birth to 5 years of age. They can offer surgery appointments or home visits by arrangement. The Health Visitors run a drop in baby clinic at Tynecastle Community Wing at Tynecastle High school every Thursday afternoon between 13:30 and 14:30. If you wish to speak to one of the Health Visiting team then please call 0131 537 7451 between 08.30 and 16.30 Monday to Friday. An answering machine is available when the Health Visitors are out of the office so please leave a message as this is checked regularly throughout the day.
Midwives
The midwives offer assessments and support during pregnancy until 10 days after the birth of your baby. The midwives are based at Slateford Medical Centre. They run clinics here at Springwell Medical Centre on Mondays and Tuesdays weekly. These appointments are made by the midwives so we have no access to their appointment book.
